Julia Sklar is a Boston-based editor and award-winning science journalist whose work has appeared in National Geographic, The Boston Globe, and MIT Technology Review; most recently she was story editor at Sierra.

Biography

Julia Sklar is an editor and award-winning science journalist with nearly 15 years of experience. Most recently she served as story editor for Sierra magazine, commissioning and editing coverage of climate science, public health, environmental justice, conservation, and Indigenous affairs. She currently supports the Ag & Water Desk as a part-time expert journalist and editor. Earlier in her career she reported on science, health, food, and technology for National Geographic, The Boston Globe, Curbed, Lenny Letter, Undark Magazine, and others, including year-long "bookazine" reporting projects for National Geographic on neuroscience and stress science. Her career began as MIT Technology Review's first multimedia editor. She has taught science journalism at Johns Hopkins and MIT, and holds a master's in science journalism from Boston University and bachelor's degrees in brain and cognitive sciences and anthropology from the University of Rochester.
