Test your knowledge of deep time, from cosmic history to the far future, at Long Now Boston's pub quiz in Kendall Square.
Which came first: the Great Pyramid, or the extinction of the woolly mammoth? Which is older: Oxford University, or the Aztec Empire? Join Long Now Boston for the 10,000 Year Pub Quiz, a relaxed evening of trivia and conversation at The Bar at Eastern Edge in Kendall Square, with questions spanning cosmic, geologic and human timescales, from the distant past to the far future.
No expertise required. Come solo or bring friends; we'll mix it up, so it's a great way to meet other curious people. Quizmaster John Hayes and co-host Gretel Hartman will share the answers and the surprising stories behind them. Everyone who plays is entered to win a gorgeous copy of Conjuring the Void: The Art of Black Holes by Lynn Gamwell, generously donated by the MIT Press Bookstore.
Long Now Boston explores long-term thinking: taking responsibility for the next 10,000 years and beyond. Thinking on long timescales starts with a feel for how long things really take, and a pub quiz is a fun way to stretch that sense.
The Bar at Eastern Edge is at 290 Main St, an easy walk from the Kendall/MIT Red Line stop. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Please register on Eventbrite so we can save enough tables.
